Control Freak 2025 Soap2day, a body horror film, paints a terrifying picture of a woman decomposing under the pressure of her own painstakingly planned life. Motivating speaker Valerie, who presents a picture of perfect achievement, is a prisoner of her own need for control. With a tense relationship with her father, the constant pressure of her job, and childhood trauma associated with her mother, Valerie's meticulously crafted façade starts to fall apart. Her obsessive scalp scratching and the horrifying images of a bug-like devil that appears with ants become a visceral manifestation of her inner torment, which has the potential to ruin her destiny.
Director: Shal Ngo
Writer: Shal Ngo
Starring: Kelly Marie Tran, Miles Robbins, Kieu Chinh
The movie deftly use the demon as a metaphor to illustrate how mental illnesses, especially OCD and anxiety, can take over a person's life like a bug taking over a host. The concept of the novel, along with psychological horror and folklore, makes for a unique and captivating plot. Through confusing editing, eerie camera work, and a tense music, the movie also skillfully conveys Valerie's growing fear. The film's sound design is very powerful, evoking strong emotions through the persistent, unsettling noises of Valerie's obsessive skin-picking and scratching.

Control Freak, though, finds it difficult to keep up its speed. The film's impact is diminished by its lengthy duration and erratic pacing, and despite its ambition, the story never quite strikes a harmonious balance among its many thematic components. Despite its allusions to more in-depth examinations of trauma and mental illness, the movie ultimately seems to skim the surface.
