In Last Breath 2025 soap2day, Finn Cole plays Chris Lemons, a deep-sea diver who spends months away from home performing pipeline repairs in the North Sea—a task that no one really wants to do. This time, Johnny is paired with his buddy and mentor Duncan Allcock (Woody Harrelson), a seasoned professional who will retire at the end of this mission. Additionally, there's Dave Yuasa (Simu Liu), a sour "all-star diver" who doesn't mince things. Chris and Dave dive to the ocean floor to start their repairs while Duncan keeps an eye on their supplies. However, when the seas change and a strange incident happens, Chris finds himself stranded in the crushing depths.
The fact that Last Breath takes a while to get underway, even if it has a fast runtime of little over 1.5 hours, isn't a bad thing. Because it is based on actual occurrences, the buildup really keeps you interested because you learn a little bit about all the crucial procedures these divers follow to finish their work safely. In order to reach their working depths, they must first undergo gradual pressurization (and depressurization) before learning about the "umbilical tether," which is precisely what it sounds like—a lifeline for the diver. It gives you a close-up look at what it takes to be a saturation diver, including some amazing underwater photos that I will discuss in more detail in a moment.
Being ostentatious or shiny is not important to Last Breath. Parkinson and cameraman Nick Remy Matthews also choose to let the facts speak for themselves rather than oversensitize the narrative. Scenes from the 2019 documentary, including a few of the unconscious Lemons experiencing oxygen deprivation shock, are interwoven into the visuals. It is difficult to see, and it is even more heartbreaking when you realize that it is real and not "over-acted."
